In the village that is home to the world’s oldest distillery, the locals call this Co Antrim hotel ‘a living museum of Ulster Hospitality.’ This is an award winning hotel and restaurant that has been outstandingly successful in re-creating its origins as an Old Coaching Inn and Mill House.

Originally built as a Coaching Inn, with the oldest part dating back to the 1600s, the Bushmills Inn was the last stop for weary travellers on their way to the Giant’s Causeway, now a world heritage site. It was here they would stop to sample the whiskey that made the village internationally famous – dating back to 1608, Bushmills is the world’s oldest distillery.

The Inn provides an array of services ranging from accommodation to fine dining,  has an international reputation in serving the best of new Irish cuisine and is featured in Ireland’s Blue Book.

A wooden staircase leads to the Gallery displaying stunning paintings of the Causeway Coast. In the old hay loft, with its original oak beams there’s a snug, complete with stove fire and comfortable chairs, where books are tucked into the nooks and crannies.

Bedrooms are individually furnished in a comfortable cottage style and have “antiqued” bathrooms. The Mill House accommodates most of the bedrooms, all imaginatively designed in traditional style with discretely hidden modern conveniences.

It’s hard to think of a better base for a holiday playing the famous golf courses of the area (Royal Portrush is just four miles away) – or simply exploring this beautiful coastline and its hinterland. This one of the most beautiful parts of the Island of Ireland to visit.
