Bangor Castle in Bangor, Northern Ireland, was completed in 1852 for The Hon Robert Edward Ward. This imposing building is not so much a castle as an elegant mansion in the Elizabethan-Jacobean revival style.
It had 35 bedrooms and incorporated a huge salon for musical recitals. The building – now known as the Town Hall – is presently the headquarters of Ards and North Down Borough Council who use the mansions spectacular grand salon as the council chamber.
Although the castle is not accessible to the public you can still walk up the rolling lawn to admire this building from its beautiful grounds, which are a place to see in Co Down.
Antrim is the county town of County Antrim in Northern Ireland. Antrim is a small town not frequently visited by tourists, yet it is one of the more historic towns in Northern Ireland with many interesting sights and buildings of historic note.
