The North Down Coastal Path is one of the finest shoreline walks in Ireland. It extends for 12 miles along the southern shore of Belfast Lough from Holywood to Portavoe near Groomsport.

This beautiful environment, with its contrasting shoreline, offers the nature and wildlife of Northern Ireland a place to flourish as it provides a number of differing habitats from rocky shores through salt marshes and mud flats to sandy beaches.

Despite the urban surroundings, the shoreline is home to seals and many species of shore birds and wildflowers. Oystercatchers, cormorants, lapwings, redshank, eider duck and curlew are all common either seasonally or year round. The birds seem to have become quite accustomed to people walking the path and this will allow you to see some normally shy species up close.

The Coastal Path is one of the jewels of the Ards and North Down area and many people find walking the paths a great thing to do when visiting Co Down on a pleasant day.
